Position Summary

PET CT Technologists are direct patient caregivers. Perform dose preparation and administration functions for
diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare
images for interpreting physician to view.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
• Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, diagnostic CT, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required.
• Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
• Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
• Adheres to Orlando Health mission statement and strategic imperatives.
• Performs all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional, PET, and diagnostic CT procedures required by specific studies.
• Performs SPECT, SPECT CT, PET, PET CT, and diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
• Performs PET and diagnostic CT imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by interpreting physician, as required.
• Performs all computer acquisition, and processing and documentation as required by procedure.
• Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by written procedure or manufactures guidelines.
• Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required.
• Maintains records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
• Performs all safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
• Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical, contrast, and medication administration as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses and calculates exact patient dosages as required by law and maintains records of such.
• Assists in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.
• Participates in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program.
• Ensures safety of all customers.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies, department guidelines, and education requirements.


Other Related Functions
• Participates in Process Improvement activities.
• Assists in preparing for ACR accreditation.
• May be required to work at any facility.
• Provides safe patient transport.
• Handles, disposes, and decontaminates radioactive materials; while maintaining records of such under the regulations of the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
• Maintains a working knowledge of all procedural changes and equipment updates.
• Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the patient studies.
• Responsible for patient and family education of the studies being performed.
• Participates in ensuring compliance with applicable regulations including but not limited to OSHA, The Joint Commission, FDA, NRC, EPA, and the Florida Department of Health.

Qualifications

Education/Training
• Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.


Licensure/Certification

• Must meet ONE of the following in totality: * Maintains current certification as both a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) AND Positron Emission Tomography (PET) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB); OR * Maintains current certification in both American Registry of Radiology
Technologists in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT) (N); AND Positron Emission Tomography (PET) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
• Must meet ALL of the following: * Maintains current Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist. * Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.


Experience
• Must have knowledge of Nuclear Medicine, PET, and CT equipment, procedures, and radiation safety.
