Be part of something new from the ground up! Orlando Health’s brand-new Wiregrass Ranch Hospital is scheduled to open in April 2026, and we are seeking an Advanced Endoscopy Technician Lead to join our team.

 

Job Overview
The Endoscopy Technician - Lead, under the general supervision of a Gastroenterologist and Registered Nurse, assists physicians with procedures performed in the advanced (interventional) endoscopy setting. This position functions as the technical expert, assisting in the performance of the most advanced endoscopic procedures as well as performing administrative and coordination activities as a lead worker. This position is the expert resource in the use and maintenance of the highly complex endoscopic equipment and instrumentation used in gastrointestinal endoscopy specialty. The Endoscopy Technician - Lead is responsible for the orientation, training, and mentoring of other individuals at the Endoscopy Technician level. The position is also responsible for developing content and/or teaching classes for continuing education of the Endoscopy Technicians. This position functions with a high degree of autonomy and will assume additional responsibilities as delegated by the Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assists the endoscopist during complex endoscopic procedures such as ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection, Hemostasis and Third Space Endoscopy.
  • Sets up cautery settings for each interventional endoscopic procedure.
  • Mix agents such as saline, dye, cyanoacrylate in correct proportions for endoscopic procedures.
  • Assist the endoscopist and be familiar with long-wire exchanges during ERCP.
  • Know the accessories for each procedure and be proficient with cautery settings and other accessories to assist with endoscopic emergencies.
  • Must be able to provide endoscopic support for emergencies in the operating room, ICU and ER settings. Recognizes emergent situations during endoscopy procedures and demonstrates the ability to set priorities to assist the endoscopy team.
  • Operate state-of-the-art AV equipment for recording videos for teaching.
  • Participate in teaching and training of other endoscopy technicians and nurses for performing complex procedures. Performs and serves as a technical expert for Endoscopy Technician and Nurses, assisting with endoscopic procedures.
  • Independently and expertly executes the duties and responsibilities of preceptor and clinical resource, guiding and mentoring colleagues' though processes in complex situations in order to provide optimal patient care. Provides structured feedback with examples.
  • Participate in lab to assist endoscopist with research and development of novel products and teach other allied professional intricacies of advanced endoscopic procedures.
  • Willing to travel with endoscopists to provide care to overseas heads-of-state as part of team representing OH.
  • Maintain par level, maintain supplies in assigned endoscopy suite.
  • Be available for providing emergency call coverage after 5 PM and on weekends.
  • Labels and sends specimens to proper department/location for analysis in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Assists with the collection of specimens and prepares specimens for cytology, microbiology, and pathology
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding patient status, technical equipment, or unit concerns to necessary healthcare workers.
  • Prepares procedural suites for advanced GI and/or other interventional procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and purpose of contrast media used during ERCP. Recognizes pertinent patient information, modifying standard approach to care if patient has a contrast allergy. 
  • Facilitates proper patient positioning prior to endoscopic procedures and recognizes weight limitations for fluoroscopy table.
  • Provides direct care to patients in admitting and in recovery as directed by the resource nurse, including providing nourishment, assisting with toileting, discontinuing of IVs and checking vital signs. Maintains open and effective communication with patients and the GI Unit team. All duties falling under Medical Assistant per certificate. (essential).
  • Maintains, cleans, and stores endoscopic equipment and supplies according to policy.
  • Facilitates efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation needed for cases to follow in assigned room (essential).
  • Processes pathology specimens according to established protocols (essential).
  • Performs preventive maintenance and decontamination of endoscopes and other diagnostic equipment in compliance with established protocols (essential).
  • Prepares and assists with research procedures. (essential).
  • Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvement activities, impacting quality and safety targets on the unit-based scorecard, through peer-to-peer accountability, reporting near misses, and collaborating with the interprofessional team
  • Ensures all needed equipment and supplies are available for all procedures in a timely manner (essential).
  • Identifies changes in collected patient data and notifying nurse
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures

Qualifications

Education/Training

High School diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Biological/medical field preferred. Medical Assistant Certificate preferred. 3-5 years related work experience required. Knowledge of medical terminology. Technical and analytical abilities necessary to operate technical and electronic equipment and perform tests with a high degree of accuracy. Able to anticipate the equipment needs of the operator during an interventional procedure to meet time and quality standards. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with critically ill patients in emergency situations under high levels of stress.


Prior experience with assisting with performance of third space endoscopy such as peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), G(gastric)- POEM, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), ERCP, EUS is mandatory. Hands-on experience with assisting ERCP, cholangioscopy, EHL, EUS, EMR, ESD, POEM/G-POEM, ESD, EUS-guided biliary drainage or pancreatic fluid collection drainage procedures, is recommended.

Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification


Experience
Minimum of three (3) year clinical experience. Solid experience with scope reprocessing is required.
