Job Overview:

The Director of Surgical Services Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily management of our Surgical Services Department, including the Operating Room (OR) and Endoscopy. This leadership role will focus on optimizing workflows, coordinating physician schedules, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and developing best-in-class protocols for surgical and procedural access. You’ll collaborate directly with our Chief Surgical Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and other key leaders to enhance the efficiency of our surgical services, drive operational excellence, and elevate the patient experience.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operational Leadership: Manage day-to-day activities within the surgical services area, ensuring optimal utilization of the OR and Endoscopy departments.

  • Process Optimization: Develop and implement protocols to improve surgery scheduling, OR utilization, and patient flow, ensuring seamless access to surgical and procedural areas.

  • Staffing & Team Management: Lead, recruit, and retain a high-performing surgical scheduling team. Foster a high-touch, service-centric culture within the team.

  • Collaborative Engagement: Build strong relationships with physicians, hospital leadership, and other stakeholders to optimize OR and procedural area access.

  • Continuous Improvement: Oversee the continuous evaluation of processes, identify barriers to access, and drive improvements that enhance operational efficiency and reduce last-minute cancellations.

  • Technology Integration: Work with IT and hospital operations to ensure that the scheduling and OR utilization platforms are optimized for both traditional and online communication with employed and community surgeons.

  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and analyze inbound and outbound communication for accuracy, ensuring the quality of service for physicians and patients.

  • Effective Communication: Ensure timely and accurate communication with all stakeholders regarding changes in block allocations, provider schedules, and supply chain updates.

  • Demonstrated understanding of government healthcare reform, medical advances, and emerging trends in healthcare.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the department.

  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

  • Regular, punctual attendance is expected, adhering to Orlando Health policies and legal standards.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Must have operating room experience: Applicants will only be considered if they have direct experience working in the operating room (OR).

  • Educational Requirements: A Master’s degree in Business, Health Administration, or a related healthcare field is required.

  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressive healthcare management experience, ideally with an emphasis on ambulatory patient access centers or surgical operations.

  • Leadership Skills: Strong background in managing cross-functional teams and leading projects in a complex healthcare setting.

  • Technological Savvy: Familiarity with healthcare revenue cycles, clinical systems, and scheduling platforms.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Ability to effectively work across multiple departments and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
