Position Summary

The Manager ensures high quality, patient-centered care by overseeing the daily operations and staffing of the unit/departments. The Manager monitors and evaluates patient care, daily unit/department operational efficiency, and holds staff accountable for quality and clinical outcomes in support of facility objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Helps create superior clinical identity by operationalizing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Supports efforts to reduce variation in clinical practice and improve OR efficiency, effectiveness, and cost. Focuses on improving key performance indicators such as Primetime Utilization, First Case On-Time Starts, Same Day Cancellation Rate, Block Utilization, and Surgical Site Infection rates.
  • Ensures a culture of accountability and transparency in the provision of care.
  • Supports the achievement of internal/external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures, in collaboration with clinical engineering, that equipment maintenance is performed regularly and according to regulatory and/or accreditation standards.
  • Manages admissions and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
  • Facilitates effective staffing and interdisciplinary care coordination within and across departments. Ensures that staff with appropriate clinical competencies are assigned to meet patient care needs.
  • Manages nursing practice and unit operations and/or oversees the operations of the Surgical Supplies and Sterile Processing Department(s) to ensure the right equipment and supplies are available to support an efficient and quality Operating Room.
  • Monitors and evaluates the provision of nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures to ensure patient and family needs are assessed and met.
  • Provides leadership in attaining and sustaining an unparalleled patient experience. Instills accountability for consistently delivering positive patient interactions that differentiate the organization as healthcare leader.
  • Reviews various feedback mechanisms and helps identify opportunities to improve customer/patient satisfaction. Supports the development and implementation of strategies to elevate the patient experience.
  • Ensures compliance with evidence-based practices that enhance patient experience and customer experience, including the surgeon and other providers.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and other leaders to create an environment of teamwork that supports improved outcomes and service.
  • Supports a patient-first philosophy and engages in service recovery when necessary.
  • Leads in a way that inspires commitment to the vision/mission/values of the organization. Implements evidence-based employee engagement practices.
  • Identifies development opportunities for the training needs of individual employees and teams. Provides coaching, feedback, and training to improve performance.
  • Builds a competitively superior organization through attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining top talent. Ensures people with the right skills and motivations are in the right role, at the right time to meet the business objectives.
  • Assumes responsibility for resolving and/or channeling employee grievances, disputes, or concerns according to the appropriate procedures, escalating to the Director when necessary.
  • Represents the organization positively within the community, participates in company supported community/patient events and in[1]services.
  • Manages staff scheduling. Maintains staffing in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the Director to manage operating expenses, including the utilization of primetime, resources, and identifies cost reduction opportunities across the department(s).
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

ONE of the following is required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree if overseeing nursing staff directly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or another health-related field.
  • Master’s degree is preferred but not required.

 

Licensure/Certification

Required of nursing candidates only:

  • Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • May require one or more of the following certifications based on the assigned patient population:
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS)
  • Trauma Nurse Core Corse (TNCC)

 

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in healthcare, including one (1) year of leadership experience.
  • Process improvement experience is preferred but not required.
